Air Conditioner
Your suite has its own air conditioning for your comfort — please help us keep electricity costs down by turning it off whenever you leave. If it's repeatedly left running, we may need to apply a $50 electricity surcharge to help cover the extra cost, but we'd much rather you help us avoid that altogether.
Coffee Machines
Across our locations, you'll typically find one of two types of coffee machines:
- Coffee grinder machines (e.g. Julia): Please keep the water and coffee beans topped up regularly. After each use, empty the coffee grounds and old water from the bottom of the machine, and run water through the milk pipe so it doesn't dry out and start to smell.
- POD machines: Please empty the used pods and old water from the back of the machine regularly.
A few minutes of upkeep keeps coffee tasting good for the whole community.
Washing Machine and Dryer
- Label your laundry basket with your suite number. If you need a label, we're happy to provide one — this matters most for new freelancers who may not yet recognise whose basket belongs to whom.
- Use the laundry queue cards. Place the queue card provided inside your basket so everyone can see whose washing is in the machines and where it is in the process.
- Moving someone else's washing? If you need to remove washing from a machine after its cycle has finished, place it in the owner's laundry basket (or move it to the next stage, e.g. washer to dryer, where possible). Please don't place washing on the bench or floor.
- Help keep the queue moving. Choose a wash cycle appropriate to how soiled your items are — as a guide, cycles should generally be no longer than one hour. Leave the lid on the laundry liquid pump and use approximately two pumps of detergent; more than this can reduce the machine's washing efficiency.
- Found an unknown item? If an item that isn't yours ends up in your washing, please return it to its owner or place it back in the appropriate laundry basket as soon as possible.
- Clean the dryer's lint filter after each cycle.
- Don't leave personal items, rubbish, or packaging in the laundry. There isn't enough room, and it makes the space look untidy and can block access to cupboards. If something's no longer needed in your suite, please take it home with you instead of leaving it "until later" — items left this way are often forgotten. If you're unable to take cardboard or other rubbish straight to the bins, please break it down and store it under or beside your hutch until you're able to dispose of it.
Tea Towels and Cleaning Cloths
If you notice a tea towel or hand towel needs a wash, please add it to your next load. You might also spot a dirty kitchen towel already sitting in the washing machine drum from someone else — if so, please wash, dry, fold and return it to the kitchen. If everyone does their bit, we'll always have fresh towels ready for the community.
Dishwasher
A few tips to get the best out of the dishwasher:
- Run it on the 1-hour cycle for the best heat wash, rinse and dry — and place tablets on the bottom of the dishwasher, not in the dispenser.
- Please use powder only — liquid detergent isn't compatible with these machines.
- Try not to open it mid-cycle. If you do need to, just close the door again, and it should restart automatically.
- Once it's finished, the lights go off, and the door releases automatically.
- Please dry off any extra moisture and put clean dishes away before loading in dirty ones (yes, this happens a lot!) — it keeps things moving for whoever's next.
Drying Line
Some of our locations have an external drying line. Please keep an eye on your washing and free up the space once it's dry — other freelancers will be waiting to use it too.
Bins
The bin in the kitchen is for food waste only — please don't use it for salon or treatment rubbish. (For general waste and the wider bin-emptying roster at your site, see your location's Procedures article.)
If the kitchen bin is full, please pop in a fresh liner — spare liners are kept under the laundry sink.
Boxes and cartons need to be broken down before going in the recycle bin. If you've got a large amount of packaging from your initial move-in, we'd really appreciate you taking it home instead — recycle bin space is limited and mostly needed for everyday waste.
Toilets
Please leave the toilet as clean as you found it, and switch off the lights when you're done — small things that make a big difference for the next person.
Fridge
We keep milk, coffee beans and teas regularly stocked for everyone. The fridge is emptied and cleaned on the last day of each month, so please label anything you're storing with your suite number — unlabelled items will be disposed of during the clean.
Locked out of your Suite?
Don't worry — there's a backup key at each site, and your Community Manager can arrange a temporary access key for you. Just get in touch with them, and they'll sort you out.

Payment of Rent
All Freedom Suites freelancers pay rent via direct debit. To help you avoid late payment fees — and to help us keep the space beautifully maintained for everyone — please make sure there are sufficient funds in your nominated account ahead of each payment.
Suite Doors
Suite doors must remain closed at all times while services are being provided. This is a requirement of operating from Freedom Suites and is not a flexible guideline.
While it may seem like a small detail, this requirement has a genuine impact on other businesses within our community — it reduces noise between suites and helps maintain a professional environment for everyone.
For services such as keratin treatments, a Freedom Suites portable air purifier is available in the laundry for your use. Please return it to the laundry after your appointment so it's available for others.
No Dogs Allowed Onsite
Although we all love our furry friends, dogs cannot come onsite — our lease does not permit dogs on the premises.
This is also important because we offer suites for regulated beauty and medical services, and keeping animals off-site helps protect the health and safety of freelancers and clients while keeping our shared environment clean and hygienic.
